Post Processing

Hi there! Rogan asked me how to do the Hanoi pics, so this is how I did it. haha :) it's a bit like cheating, but I guess post processing is important too.

I shall do the easiest photograph to manipulate, the others were done the same way, but those were a bit more complicated. After the initial steps, one plays with the layering and images, erases parts that is not really wanted and comes up with the final image.

So this is the original image, before post processing.

This is the final image.

I guess you can see a huge difference in atmosphere and color here. It's actually quite a simple array of steps done in photoshop.

The first step is to add false boke. Purists will hate me, but I can't afford lenses, so I photoshop instead :)

Do ignore the layers which are invisible there :) They are my backup layers. I'm a bit anal like that lol.

The first step is to use the polygonal lasso tool to draw an outline around the image you want to be sharp, in this case the boy.

Once that is done, you should have a layer that looks like this:

Select the background layer and apply a gaussian blur of 10.0 on it. It should change from this

to this:

Layer the Cutout over the gaussian blurred image, and tadaaaa!! Fake Bokeh that looks totally real!! HAhahaa.

To get that dreamy effect, I used this special thing called gradient map. It turns ordinary pictures into wowness.

click the half black half white circle at the bottom of your layers window and you will find gradient map. select it and you will get something like this:

Your image will look like this:

but no worries!! click on the gradient on your sidebar:

and you will get this:

select the third preset (the black and white one) and jiggle with it until you get the image you want. Your image should look like this now:

You can add different background colors to get the tone you want. In this case, this is how my gradient looked:

And the final step is to change the layer to soft light right here:

and you get this image! :)

I hope you enjoyed the tutorial :)
